Academic Subject Background

Given that one is vying for admissions to courses entailing engineering sciences, the NTA places a compulsion on the subjects one must have taken in Class 12th CBSE exams to ensure that candidates come with the right background. These compulsions differ across B. Tech, B. Arch, and B. Plan, and are given below:

Compulsory Subjects
B. Tech.B. Arch.B. Plan.

Including the above compulsory subjects, the candidates should have cleared the 12th class examinations in at least 5 subjects, including “Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry / Bio / BioTech / Technical Vocational Subject, or any other”.

12th Class Academic Score Cut-off

To enable a holistic admissions style and ensure students don’t end up only focusing on JEE preparation, the NTA mandates that students must therefore meet a minimum score requirement across their 12th class subjects. The previous year’s cut-offs were as follows:

  • For B.Tech.
    • General Candidates: Minimum 75% marks
    • SC / ST Candidates: Minimum 65% marks
    • Or, the top 20% of their respective board examinations
  • For B. Arch.
    • 50% marks cumulatively across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
